Westin Hotel and Condos St Petersburg Florida Redesigned
Fuel Group has resubmitted a plan for their Westin Hotel and Condos in downtown St Petersburg
After being turned down by St Petersburg’s Economic Development Council, Fuel Group had the option of appealing to the City Council (if neighbors picketing and large numbers attending the EDC meeting to protest caused the EDC to turn it down, what was the likely outcome of the elected City Council officals voting to overturn?).
Fuel Group is not pursuing an appeal. They have resubmitted to the EDC a sharply reduced project. The neighbors complained about the mass, the size, the density, the "inappropriateness". The new plan cuts the building back from 387 feet and 33 stories to 285 feet and 22 stories; from 260 hotel rooms to 154 hotel rooms; from 111 condos to 60 condos.
I haven’t seen the new plans yet. A hearing on the new project is scheduled for August 1st.
