American Stage Theater nears goal in downtown St Petersburg Florida
Raymond James Financial announced a $500,000 gift to American Stage
Yesterday afternoon was the groundbreaking ceremony for a new building across from Williams Park at the corner of 2nd Ave N and 3rd St N which will house the American Stage Theatre. The new theater will be named the American Stage Theatre Company at the Raymond James Theatre. Tom James and his family have had a long history with theater and investing in theater. American Stage will spend this year in its current home on 3rd St and 2nd Ave S, which it is now leasing back after selling it. American Stage will occupy the second and third floors of the building and will increase its seating from 142 to 200. Carl Kuttler, president of St Petersburg College, announced this building as 1/3 of a triangle which includes the Palladium Theater and the new offices of the Florica Orchestra. American Stage expects to occupy the new building in January 2009.
