St Petersburg Westin Hotel and Condos Update 6-17-2007
Followup on Fuel Group's application to develop a Westin Hotel and Condos in Downtown St Petersburg Florida
Apparently the Fuel Group is going to pursue appealing to the St Petersburg City Council the rejection of their development plan by the St Petersburg EDC, and may have a revised plan at that time, probably reducing the height of the building.
Neighbors picketed and went to the EDC hearing in large numbers to object. At issue is whether neighbors’ objections should determine the City’s decision. The project IS within downtown.
On May 17th Paul Swider reported that the project met current zoning requirements, yet was denied by the Environmental Development Commission. Stephanie Garry reported today that a city zoning official requested a shadow study, even though that is not a City of St Petersburg requirement. Did the City (taxpayers) pay for that study or was it yet another expense for the developer?
Perhaps the City of St Petersburg needs to have a buffer zone between downtown and residential Old Northeast. That’s the subject for a future blog.
