Florida Insurance - Things to Note
Be sure to check to be sure your Florida property insurance coverage is adequate.
Codes and Ordinances. Just having full replacement coverage for your home is not enough. Most Florida homes were built before the latest building codes and ordinances went into effect. So - replacement insurance would replace your house as it was, not as it needs to be to be repaired/replaced. Be sure to add this endorsement to your policy.
Citizens Property Insurance. Long known as the Insuror of Last Resort, Citizens was required by law to charge more than other insurance companies. The law has been changed and Citizens can now compete. It used to be that you could have Citizens insurance only if no other company would insure you. That is no longer the case. If your premium is at least 25% higher than Citizens, you are allowed to switch to Citizens. Citizens does not have its own agents - it is sold through existing agents for other companies.
